Security Alarm System Permits
If you own, possess, install, lease or use an alarm system within the City of Santee you will need an alarm system permit as per the Santee Municipal Code. Every residence and business property is entitled to the safety and protection afforded by local law enforcement. Inadequately regulated security alarm systems present a danger to the health, safety and welfare of the residents of Santee.
An alarm system permit is valid for an indefinite period of time unless there is a change in alarm user, address location of the alarm system, or type of alarm system. Please notify the City of Santee Finance Department at 10601 Magnolia Ave, Santee, CA 92071 in writing of any changes within (10) days after such changes occur.
An alarm permit decal must be displayed on the main entrance or front window of the business or residence.
The fee for an alarm system permit is $13.00.
Please complete the Alarm System Permit Application. The application can be submitted in person or by mail to City of Santee 10601 Magnolia Avenue, Santee, CA 92071 Attention: Finance Department.
A nuisance alarm is defined as being the activation of an alarm system due to other than an unauthorized entry on the premises or the commission or attempted commission of an unlawful act, which the alarm system is designed to detect. Activation due to natural catastrophic conditions is exempted. The majority of nuisance alarms are due to human error, poor installation or defective equipment and approximately 97% of all alarm calls responded to by law enforcement are unfounded.
For every nuisance alarm violation, you will have an opportunity to remove, correct or remedy the cause of the violation. Correction must be accomplished and the City of Santee Finance Office notified of the correction in writing, within ten (10) days after the violation notice date.
Depending on the type of alarm permit issued, the allowable number of nuisance alarms per thirty (30) day period is as follows:
SINGLE PERMIT: Not more than three (3) nuisance alarms per 30 day period
DOUBLE PERMIT: Not more than three (3) nuisance alarms per 30 day period
MULTIPLE PERMITS: Not more than three (3) nuisance alarms per 30 day period
Exceeding the number of allowable nuisance alarms could result in the following fine(s):
FIRST VIOLATION: Not to exceed $50.00
SECOND VIOLATION: Not to exceed $100.00 for the second violation within one year
THIRD VIOLATION: Not to exceed $250.00 for each additional violation within one year
